Tag: Fortress

They don’t build fortresses like they used to, do they? No, seriously. Do they? I honestly don’t know. I mean, I assume they still build a fortress or two because countries still fight battles. (Sigh.)

But I assume modern fortifications are not like the fortifications of hundreds of years ago. And, if I visit a fortress, it’s probably because it’s so old that it’s become a tourist sight. Countries typically aren’t thrilled about letting tourists such as myself into operating fortresses. So I generally see only the old ones and I can’t compare old and new.

All that claptrap being said, there’s nothing like an imposing old stone fortress. Except sometimes old stone castles. They often don’t look all that much different than old stone fortresses. Why is that?

Wait. I just consulted a thesaurus. It gave “castle” as a synonym for “fortress.” I’m so confused. Which, is my normal state. So, carry on.
