Tag: Museum Travel Journal

I generally like museums. When I visit one I usually add the tag “museum” to the post describing that visit.

But, here’s the thing. In Europe, many places that I think of as an art gallery, call themselves museums. Don’t ask me why. An art historian once made the case for it to me, but I’ve long since forgotten the basis of the argument.

To me, if it contains only paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, and such, it’s an art gallery, not a museum. However, if what I call an art gallery calls itself a museum, I might include that tag on the post. So, this tag page might direct you to a post or two that includes, by my definition, an art gallery, not a museum. If your definition is the same as mine, then, sorry about that.
