Tag: Jewish Museum

Why do I have a separate “Jewish Museum” tag? Why don’t I just lump them in with the “Museum” tag? Good question.

I generally refer to myself as culturally Jewish and religiously atheist. Upon reading me say that, someone once replied back that then I must hate myself. Nope.

I am very comfortable and happy with both parts of me. I love chopped liver, chicken soup and deli sandwiches. And I generally enjoy family gatherings for the Jewish holidays.

But I believe there is no god. And while some of the religious rules are quite good—I’m thinking along the lines of thou shalt not kill and thou shalt not bear false witness—some are silly. For example, if I were religiously Jewish, I couldn’t eat shrimp or lobster. Nope. Not following that one.

On the other hand, I still have my Bar Mitzvah certificate.

The point is, I feel an affinity for Jewish Museums. That’s particularly true if there is a Jewish Museum somewhere with a history of oppression of Jews. Which, let’s face it, is much of the world. So, they are something apart.
